Lost Creek Farm seeks a motivated, experienced, and detail-oriented prep cook to join our team for two to three days (up to 24 hours) per week. Generally, prep shifts occur on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and/or some Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Some flexibility may exist with scheduling.

Operated by chefs, farmers, and storytellers Mike Costello and Amy Dawson, Lost Creek Farm is a nationally recognized culinary destination in Harrison County, West Virginia. Known for their signature story-rich mountain cuisine, Mike and Amy strive to preserve and promote regional heritage cuisine, utilizing heirloom seeds,heritage recipes, and the power of storytelling behind every dish. In 2022, Mike and Amy were semifinalists for a James Beard Award in the category of Best Chef, Southeast. Lost Creek Farm has been featured by The New York Times, Bon Appetit, and Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, among other national and international publications. In 2025, the farm underwent a massive infrastructure upgrade, with the construction of an on-farm commercial kitchen and expanded outdoor dining space. This year, Mike and Amy hope to complete a one-of-a-kind classroom, where heirloom seeds will be preserved, recipes will be shared, and story-rich Appalachian cooking techniques can be taught in a unique farmstead environment.
More about the position
General duties include basic ingredient prep, preparation of mise en place for evening dinner service, as well as detailed execution of particular recipes. Prep cooks will coordinate closely with chefs about the weekly menu and its corresponding needs. The menu changes often due to seasonal ingredient availability, so prep work is highly variable from week to week. Lost Creek Farm is a working farm where many of our ingredients are sourced. Some necessary work may occur in the garden, in the forest, or elsewhere around the farm.
Candidates should have a valid food-handler’s certification, reliable transportation, and consistent weekly availability. Professional kitchen experience is preferred but not necessarily required, depending on the overall candidate profile. Basic kitchen skills and culinary knowledge are essential. Self motivation, clear and professional communication, and a knack for problem solving are critical traits.
Employees are subject to a fully paid two-week trial period with evaluation prior to longer-term commitment.
